Weekly e-News
from Epiphany Parish

March 20 - 27, 2018

Newsletter - Dance Drop Shadow Image

Dear Epiphany Parish,

This past Sunday, people from around our deanery gathered for a moving and beautiful prayer service here at Epiphany Parish to pray for an end to gun violence. It was wonderful to be together and this service created a prayerful space for people to come together to share stories, to pray, and to begin to think together about action that we can all take to end gun violence in our country.

This Sunday is Palm Sunday, and it is the day when we as the church gather to celebrate Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem, hear the passion story, and sit and keep watch as the story begins to turn towards the cross. I hope that you will join us as we enter into this most sacred story together.

After church on Sunday, there will be a forum with the Rev. Donna Vuilleumier, a UCC minister who is a hospice chaplain and spiritual counselor for Kindred Healthcare. This forum is the second part of our Lenten program on death and dying. Rev. Vuilleumier will be leading us in a discussion on end-of-life care and how to have important conversations about end of life wishes with loved ones. This forum will take place in the undercroft after the 10am service.

This week, as we turn towards Holy Week, I invite you to come and worship with us and enter into Jesus' death and resurrection. This year, Epiphany Parish is partnering with Church of the Advent in Medfield for Holy Week services. A full schedule of services and locations can be found in this e-news.

Peace in Christ,

Rev. Christen

She will talk about the practical choices that need to be made, as well as how our beliefs and spirituality inform these decisions. This conversation will take place in the undercroft after the 10am service.

Palm Sunday ~ Reading of the Passion Gospel

On Palm Sunday, March 25, at the 10:00 service we will once again read the Passion Gospel as a dramatic reading.  We would like to reach out beyond our regular group of readers and welcome anyone in the congregation who might be interested in participating in this once a year reading. (No long-term commitment - just one Sunday.)

Below is a list of the parts along with the number of times each person speaks.  There are also five parts (marked with an *) that are intended for multiple readers (although one person can read them).  If you are not comfortable reading alone this is a chance to read with a group of friends or your family.

If you are interested in taking part on Sunday, March 25 please e-mail Cindy Stockwell at Cindy.Stockwell@triliamedia.com and let her know what part you are interested in - first come, first served, so don't wait too long to contact her!

NARRATORS: 52 (these lines will be divided between two people)

Thank You!!

Thank you to all of our volunteers who helped with Breaking Bread on March 12.

We had plenty of help and enjoyed connecting with each other. We served 26 guests and had 9 takeout dinners. George Ford again did wonders with a New England Boiled dinner. We served cheese, crackers and grapes for an appetizer, a garden salad and mixed desserts.

Thank you to all who helped - George Ford, Bob Laurie, Pat Grant, Rhonda Banks, John Parnagian, Natalie Lee and her grandson, Jane Giovannucci, Jim Langmead, Ali, Bryan and Liv DiPasca, Mike Barrett, and Mark Helm. Thank you, also to Rev. Christen for being there to help and to lead the grace. It was a great way to provide a service to our community.

Recycling Event Scheduled for April 7

Epiphany Parish will be holding its fourth annual recycling event on Saturday, April 7, 2018, from 9am-1pm. We will be collecting computers, cell phones and other electronic devices and appliances. In the spirit of zero waste, this year's drive will also include other local charities.

Fees range from $5 for recycling cell phones, up to $35 for larger items such as console TVs. Recycling fees for electronics and appliances are payable by check or cash and will benefit Epiphany Parish of Walpole. To ensure privacy, hard drives will be removed on site and transported, along with smartphones, in a locked box and undergo secure data destruction by a certified recycler.

In addition to electronics recycling, representatives from New Life Furniture Bank of MA (formerly known as New Life Home Refurnishings) will be on site to accept donations of household furnishings that are clean and in good working condition. Please see New Life's web site at  http://www.newlifefb.org/donate-furniture for details on donations they will accept. Representatives from the Walpole Community Food Pantry will also be on site to collect non-perishable food, household, and personal care items. For details see  http://www.walpolecommunityfoodpantry.org/donations.

For more information, please call the Epiphany Parish office at 508-668-2353 Monday - Thursday between 10am - 2:00 pm.

Help us spread the word!  We have several copies of the poster here in the office.  As you are running about town doing errands why not tack up a poster at your favorite shop?  We have a list of area shops who will let us post our flyer - come by and get a few and help us spread the word!
