From Rev. Christen's Desk

Dear Epiphany Parish,

As we quickly approach back to school time and the beginning of the program year, I hope that you are having the opportunity to soak up the remaining weeks of summer. At Epiphany, the Vestry, Staff, and Leadership are working hard to get everything ready for the New Year!

This year our preparation includes a lot of work on the physical buildings on the parish property to make sure that our buildings look welcoming, are safe, and will remain useful for a long time.

Brendan Cormier has been hard at work all summer on his Eagle Project. His project is cleaning out and doing some much needed repair work on the garage located in the back of our parking lot. You can read more about his project and see photos of the work he has done later in this newsletter.

Another project that we are working on is replacing the church roof. The Property Committee, Finance Committee, and Vestry have been hard at work for months to come up with a way to pay for the replacement of the roof which we have been strongly encouraged to do before this winter. The Vestry has approved a plan for financing the roof from a number of sources, including a $7,500 fundraising goal. We will be sending out more information about how you can support the fundraiser in an e-blast tomorrow.

Being good stewards of our resources and buildings is an important way that we can help support this community going forward so that Epiphany Parish can continue to grow in discipleship and serve God here in the center of Walpole.

 Peace in Christ,

  Rev. Christen

Rai$e the Roof!

The time has come to replace the church roof at Epiphany as our roof has come to its useful end. The Vestry has voted to approve a financing plan that includes a fundraising goal of $7,500. More information about the details about the financing plan will be emailed out tomorrow in a parish-wide E-Blast.

The "Raise the Roof" fundraising campaign will kick off this Sunday, August 13, and will run through September 10. We will be selling raffle tickets for the chance to win a "Night Out on the Town" and the opportunity to pick the hymns for one Sunday this fall.

Tickets are One for $25.00 - representing a bundle of shingles and Four for $75.00 - the cost of a square of shingles. The more you donate, the more chances to win you will receive!

If you wish to make a donation, please see Jan Nuzzolo on Sunday or come by the office during from 10am-3pm on Tuesdays-Thursdays.

Thank you for your support and generous contributions as we "Raise the Roof" at Epiphany!

Brendan Cormier Eagle Project Update

For those who aren't aware, I am a member of Boy Scout Troop 44 Walpole and I am working toward the rank of Eagle Scout. Eagle Scout is the highest rank a scout can achieve, and a requirement of this rank is to complete an Eagle Project. The project must benefit an organization other than scouting, and what better organization to choose than Epiphany.

My project is focusing on the garage, the objectives are to clean and organize the inside of the garage, replace the plywood over the windows, clear out the brush around the garage, and re-paint the plywood boards and the fascia boards around doors of the garage. As you can see from the pictures, some of the work has already begun, and will continue until the end of the summer. I encourage you to look around the garage and watch the project progress. Thank you to the Vestry of Epiphany for supporting my project and allowing me to conduct it here.

Also a big thank you to the Junior Women's Club of Walpole for their generous donation.

  ~ Brendan Cormier

New Life Home Refurnishings

In June, New Life served its 1,000th household!

Ron Yates, the director of New Life has been in touch with Epiphany Parish to ask for volunteers. It is more difficult for New Life to get enough volunteers during the summer and any help would be appreciated. You can sign up with a friend or family member by going to their website www.newlifehr.org.

Rev. Christen has begun volunteering at New Life once a month. Volunteers are needed for all weeks, but if you would like to join her you can sign up for August 19.

You can sign up with a friend or family member by following the steps below.

1) Go to  http://signup.com/go/YPN6PJ (NOTE: This is the same on-line sign up we use for the Pumpkin Patch)

2) Enter your email address: (You will NOT need to register an account on signup.com)

3) Sign up! Choose your spots - SignUp.com will send you an automated confirmation and reminders. It's that easy!

Note: SignUp.com does not share your email address with anyone. If you prefer not to use your email address, please call 774-316-6395 and they can sign you up manually.

Looking Ahead...

This September, the Vestry will be organizing a series of 'cottage meetings' to facilitate parish-wide discussion on a few different topics, including the future of the Village Fair. In order to facilitate discussion, there will be representatives from the vestry and the finance committee at every meeting and each cottage meeting will be limited to 12 people.

We will also offer opportunities for feedback to be collected in other ways during this time for anyone who cannot attend a meeting.

After the cottage meetings, we will have a parish-wide meeting after church where the vestry will present their findings and we will begin to plan for the 70th Village Fair.

Campership Thank You!
