Weekly e-News from Epiphany Parish

November 13 - 20, 2018

From Rev. Christen's Desk

Dear Epiphany Parish,

As I sit in my office writing this letter, I've been watching the progress on the driveway work that is happening just outside my window. The work has been delayed today because of the rain, but progress has been made! The driveway has been completely torn up and expanded. Once the rain stops the paving will begin!

I am so grateful for the support, flexibility, and patience that everyone has shown during this project. It has taken quite a bit of coordination to communicate about this work and make sure that all the groups that use our property know where they can park while the driveway is off limits. In my view, that is a sign of a healthy church. Unfortunately, too many parishes sit empty and unused during the week. However, Epiphany is a bustling place during the week. I am excited that this work is being done because it will make Epiphany a safer and more welcoming place to everyone who comes to our buildings - for whatever reason!

We've been told that the driveway should be ready to park on by Sunday morning. We will communicate via email to the parish either way so you will know in advance where you can park when you come to church. If you come to Epiphany during the week this week, please park on the street and use the sanctuary door during office hours (it will be unlocked).

This Sunday, November 18, is also our Mil Milagros Artesania sale. After the 10am service, you will have the opportunity to purchase crafts and gifts from Guatemala downstairs in our undercroft. Mil Milagros is one of the ministries that Epiphany supports each year, helping them to equip mothers and teachers with skills and resources to improve the lives of children and families in rural Guatemala. 100% of the proceeds of this sale will go to benefit the artisans and Mil Milagros. Come support a great ministry and get a head start on your Christmas shopping!

Peace in Christ,

Rev. Christen

Stewardship Reflection:
Shirley Hutchins, November 11

I came to Epiphany Parish in 1965. Our former organist, Mike Sobol, had invited me to join the choir at Epiphany Mike and I grew up in the Church of Our Saviour in Roslindale. His brother Tom was the organist and when he left to play elsewhere, Mike took over the position. Mike and his wife Fran had been members of Epiphany in the early 60's. When Mike asked me to join Epiphany, I was thrilled to do so. Time went by, Mike took a professional position in Washington DC, and he and his wife moved to Virginia. I continued to sing in the choir with many choir directors and am still here today. Although we do not have an active choir, we do have choir members spread out in the congregation and enjoy singing during Holy Communion and on special occasions.

Since coming to Epiphany, I have been active in the parish. For many years, I used to cashier at the church fair. When I retired from work in 2000, I joined the to continue reading click here

Mil Milagros Artesenia Sale

On Sunday, November 18 from 11:00am to 2:00pm we will be hosting a Mil Milagros Artesenia Sale.

If you have never been to one of these events, you must come see the beautiful handmade jewelry and other accessories made by women of the Mayan community of Guatemala. This is a great opportunity to get some early Christmas shopping done!

Proceeds from the sale go to support women in the Mayan community of Guatemala. These women are being empowered through Mil Milagros by receiving education on nutrition, early childhood development and hygiene to care for their families. This area is one of the poorest and most malnourished in the world. Mil Milagros is developing mother leaders to collaborate with each other to change the future of their children. This sale will raise money to support these women in their quest for a better world.

The sale is open to everyone in the community (not just Epiphany Parish) so invite your friends and neighbors to come get some early Holiday shopping done or to buy a special treat for yourself.
